How to make Nail Soup
Once ready, use it like any regular wood stain. Apply with a brush or roller, and watch as the wood transforms, taking on a darker, brownish tone. Be sure to wear old clothes, as this stain is impossible to remove!

This method not only enhances the wood’s appearance with a naturally aged, weathered look, but it also creates a protective layer against fungus and insects. It's particularly useful for wood exposed unevenly to weather, as it helps minimize visible differences over time.
Nail Soup is a DIY wood stain that's an affordable and effective alternative to commercial products. To make it, use the cheapest vinegar you can find—the higher the vinegar content, the better. Add rusted metal pieces (such as old nails—hence the name "Nail Soup") and let the mixture sit for 3-4 weeks. Keep the lid slightly open to allow gas from the chemical reaction to escape.
